Petty Enterprise driver Jim
Paschal claimed victory in the 1962
Nashville 500. This was the second victory at Nashville for
the veteran driver from High Point NC. Paschal took the lead on
lap 203 and never looked back.
This would be the last career start for
NASCAR Grand National driver Joe Lee Johnson.
Johnson captured the 1959 Nashville 300 and the 1960 World 600
at Charlotte.
This would also be the first start at
Nashville for Danville, Virginia's Wendell Scott. His last
appearance at the track would come in May 1972 at the Mr. D's
200 Grand National East race. Unfortunately, Scott broke a
spindle on lap 256 and finished 15th.
This would be the first appearance by Bud
Moore Racing at the Fairgrounds. The team would make 25
appearances at the track and captures wins in 1981 by Benny
Parsons and 1983 by Dale Earnhardt
